Intervention Teacher



DEPARTMENT:   Teaching JOB STATUS:  Full Time

POSITIONS SUPERVISED:  N/A REPORTS TO:  Building Principal

GRADE/LEVEL:  K-12 F.L.S.A:  Exempt

WORK SCHEDULE:  190 contracted days

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Intervention Teacher works to assist in the development and implementation of a district literacy and/or math program dedicated to the prevention and correction of students’ reading and/or math difficulties at the earliest possible time in their educational careers.  Demonstrating lessons, coaching observations and assisting schools in the systematic analysis of students’ reading and math skills provides on-going support to improve the district’s overall reading and math programs with particular attention to grades kindergarten to sixth.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To sustain on-going teaching to students in small groups and/or individual settings 
  • To extend literacy and/or math competencies through professional development
  • To provided conduct pre/post diagnostic assessments to determine individual needs
  • To determine instruction intervention strategies that reflect understanding of the diverse needs of students
  • To intervene into student’s inappropriate patterns of learning and redirect the responses to more efficient and constructive outcomes
  • To provided both pull-out and push-in (classroom) instruction for designated students
  • To collect data, analyze results and report findings on a weekly basis
  • To confer with classroom teachers on an as needed basis
  • To participate in team meetings
  • To collect data, analyze results and report findings
  • To support the school-wide assessment system for monitoring student achievement
  • To evaluate student achievement and assist with placing students in appropriate intervention and support services
  • To identify needs and make recommendations for appropriate reading and writing materials
  • To provide records and research data to the Principal and Central Office Administrators
  • To perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by employee’s supervisor, the principal, or the superintendent

 

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree with an accredited educational institution and job related training in Literacy and/or Math.  Other requirements per job description.  

 

EXPERIENCE

Three years of teaching/administrative experience and proven Literacy and/or Math understanding and best classroom practices.  Other requirements per job description.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Hand-eye and mind-eye coordination.  Constant hearing; intermittent speaking, standing, walking and writing.  Frequent carrying, keyboarding, and other repetitive movements.  Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds as needed to move objects often.  

 

 OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Excellent oral and written communication skills.  Skills in human relations, leadership, and conflict management.  Knowledgeable of teaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students.  Demonstrated skills in the use of technology to enhance student learning.
