DEPARTMENT:   Maintenance & Transportation        JOB STATUS:  Full Time

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: N/A                            REPORTS TO:  Principal and Assistant Superintendent of Maintenance and Transportation

POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision performs a variety of custodial duties in support of classroom and administrative operations. Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, tasks required to maintain the cleanliness, good order, sanitary and safety for the physical plant and grounds. Custodial staff must be capable of working reliably and independently to carry out assigned tasks and work schedules. All maintenance and custodial employees are expected to display a good attitude with fellow employees, respect for co-workers and superiors, a friendly smile when working around and dealing with children, patience and kindness when dealing with problems relating to children and adults, desire to do a good job, willingness to learn and try new things, ability to follow directions, and an understanding that the principal or designee is in charge of the school and makes all decisions.

  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

General duties of the custodian are to maintain safety and cleanliness of classrooms, restrooms, hallways, administrative offices, gyms, auditoriums and any other areas inside and outside each school.  Routine work includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • To adhere to Federal, State and District Policies & Procedures Control
  • To maintain interior and exterior care
  • To monitor dusting; air quality concerns care
  • To climb ladders to clean, retrieve or make repairs, dust, change light bulbs, cleaning light fixture
  • sTo wash windows; for more detail procedures follow District and approved training procedures
  • To provide floor care as needed
  • To clean and sanitize restroom fixtures, hardware, tile, mirrors, partitions, floors, etc..
  • To replace and stock restroom and locker room supplies as needed
  • To set up tables, chairs, etc. for meetings and events as needed
  • To move classroom and cafeteria furniture and other equipment as needed
  • To use District approved and furnished chemicals in cleaning projects
  • To use tools for repairs
  • To report any damage to school property, maintenance needs, vandalism, safety concerns, housekeeping problems to supervisor daily
  • To replace light bulbs and fluorescent tubes as needed; clean fixtures
  • To load and unload supplies and equipment
  • To assist in any maintenance work that is needed. (See attached Minor Maintenance List.)
  • To perform any minor repair work (Identified on Minor Maintenance List)
  • To lift and empty 55 gallon trash cans
  • To know location and proper care and use of all fire fighting equipment
  • To be responsible for the security of the classrooms and buildings
  • To take care of renovation cleaning and maintenance during summer months
  • To report any trouble or problems relating to the heating or cooling system immediately
  • To clean all tools, supplies and equipment
  • To relieve, assist, or fill in temporarily on other jobs as assigned by supervisor
  • To follow time schedule
  • To perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by employee’s supervisor, the principal, or the superintendent

Education

Minimum of  high school diploma or GED, with an accredited educational institution or job related experience. Other requirements per job description.

 

Experience

Once year of successful experience working with children..  Other requirements per job description.

Any valid certificate or license to comply with the necessary requirements to meet the position’s essential duties and responsibilities.  (Could be N/A according to the position)
